Emily Blunt, Meryl Streep and the star of Hamilton, Lin-Manuel Miranda, what more could you want! How about Colin Firth, Angela Lansbury and one of my person favourites, Emily Mortimer. Throw in the return of Dick Van Dyke and you have the exciting cast of Mary Poppins Returns. It also has some great names behind the scenes with directors and producers from musicals including Into The Woods, Chicago and La La Land. An original score is being written by the people from Hairspray fame and hair and make-up design by Peter Swords King from The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King.
Now that Jane and Michael are all grown up, Mary Poppins returns to help them through a personal loss. Michael has three kids and is living at the Banks family’s childhood home on Cherry Tree Lane. The Fidelity Fiduciary Bank will make a return, with Dick Van Dyke as its chairman.
According to Oh My Disney, production has begun on the sequel but the release date on IMDB isn’t until Christmas 2018 so it’s going to be a long wait. When Julie Andrews was asked her opinion on Emily Blunt as Mary Poppins, she said “I think she’ll be practically perfect.”
